Seeing What’s There

Let’s spend a moment looking at this interesting urban scene. What could be more relaxing than a sunny day in the park in the middle of a busy city? While this is a common first impression, see what happens when you scroll across the landscape. By focusing in more narrowly you may find that people’s experiences are quite varied and composed of pleasant and difficult mental states.

Facing Difficulties

One of the skills you will learn in Mindful Mood Balance is how to be more fully aware and present in each moment of your life. This will make your life more interesting and vivid, but it may also bring you closer to unpleasant or difficult thoughts and feelings.

In practice, you will find that turning to face and acknowledge difficulties is the most effective way, in the long run, to help reduce lingering symptoms of depression and stay well. It is also key to preventing further depression because seeing your difficulties sooner means that you will be in a better position to “nip them in the bud” before they progress to more intense depressive states.
